Laser Bullet Training

I've had Laser-Ammo's SureStrike Laser Training Bullet for about a month now and just went to the range to see what effect it had on my shooting. Wow. My first shot is always dead center. I reacquire the target faster. My shooting is at it's best and I used zero ammo to get there!

SureStrike Laser Ammo

Here's how the Laser Training Bullet works

Some background: Laser-Ammo's SureStrike Laser Training Bullet allows me to train with my pistol at home. I can simulate many scenarios safely that I just can't replicate at the range. Not only that, but most ranges will not allow the average shooter to practice what I can with the Laser Training Bullet.

I can practice draw cock and shoot... from any direction. This means I can spin around, dive for cover, and shoot facing the threat, no matter which direction it comes from. I can move through rooms, clearing as I go, alone, with a partner, or a team, with zero risk to any of us. We practice force on force, with opponents "shooting" back.

I'd like to document my training regimen and was interested in your thoughts on which drills you think would be most effective using the Laser Training Bullet.

Leave a comment with your ideas and I'll test them out and write a post, maybe a video on how to get the most out of laser bullet training.

SureStrike caliber adaptors The SureStrike kit is caliber specific and will work with any handgun. Laser-Ammo's SureStrike Laser Training Bullet is currently shipped to fit specific handguns. Select different caps to work with different calibers. Available for 9mm, .40 and .45. or even 12 gauge shotgun! SureStrike Shotgun Capsules Extend your laser bullet training regimen to a shotgun! Combined with a SureStrike, Laser Ammo's Shotgun Capsules make realistic dry fire scattergun practice a convenient addition to weapon drills. Bore Sight Change the SureStrike laser bullet training system into a convenient bore sighting tool. Just replace the standard end cap with Laser Ammo's bore sight device and insert the SureStrike in the weapon according to normal instructions. The bore sight will turn on with one pull of the trigger. Adjust your sights accordingly, then turn the bore sight off with another pull of the trigger.

I did a search for Ammo prices and found some really great deals on Ammo here

90th Anniversary of Haganah

The Haganah (Hebrew for Defense) Organization was the largest and most centralized military organization of the Jewish Settlement enterprise, called the Yishuv, during the time of the British Mandate. The Haganah was a Jewish paramilitary organization in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine from 1920 to 1948, which later became the core of the Israel Defense Forces. The Haganah is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary.

From 1921-1948 there was a course for Haganah Division Commanders, from which all Haganah commanders emerged. This Haganah Division Commander Course also produced 6 IDF Chiefs of General Staff and 27 Brigadier Generals.

Division Commanders from the Haganah gathered at the IDF Goa'ara base on September 14, 2010 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the organization's establishment.

The evening was hosted by former Israeli President and current President of the Haganah organization, Mr. Yitzhak Navon; Deputy Minister of Defense Mr. Matan Vilnai; Chairman of the National Haganah Organization, Maj. Gen. (res.) Tzvika Lebnon; and Chief Education and Youth Officer, Brig. Gen. Eli Sharmiester.

IDF Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen Gabi Ashkenazi, addressed the ceremony, saying, “You, the members of the Haganah are fighters in the War of Independence, who have written chapters of gold in the book of heroes of Israel, you were the ones to pave the way for the IDF as the army of the Jewish people, and as a body that can promise to the world ‘never again’. I salute you.”

About 2000 members of the Haganah and their family members participated in the event, which included reunions, a performance by the Ha'givatron band, a performance by the IDF Orchestra, and a Colour Guard presentation of the 11 Haganah brigades who fought in the War of Independence.

Godspeed Major General Israel Tal

Israel Tal, a decorated war hero and the creator of Israel's renowned "Merkava" tank, died in Rehovot Israel on Wednesday. He was age 86.

Born in the small Zionist settlement of Beer Tuvia in Palestine in 1924, General Tal, also known as Talik, fought in the British Army’s Jewish Brigade as a teen in World War II, later he helped lay the foundations of the IDF and held a series of important posts in the course of an illustrious military career, leaving the IDF as deputy chief of staff.   He will be laid to rest on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, Chagit, a daughter, Pnina; a son, Yair; and several grandchildren.

He is considered one of the best five armor commanders in history, alongside U.S. Gen. George S. Patton, Gen. Creighton Abrams, German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and Israeli Maj. Gen. Moshe Peled, according to the Patton Museum in Fort Knox Kentucky, where he is commemorated.

Tal oversaw the design of the Merkava tank _ Hebrew for "chariot" _ which is widely seen as one of the best Tanks of its time. The Merkava Tank was created to ensure the safety of its crew by placing the engine at the front, allowing crew and medics to enter and exit from behind, even under fire.

The Merkava Tank was also developed for Israeli terrain, particularly specializing in long-range fire, according to the Armor Museum. The Merkava Tank entered combat in the 1980s.

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, the forum of the general staff, senior commanders, regular and reserve soldiers all saluted Tal for his work, legacy, and contribution to the security of Israel over the many years.

"The image of a legendary warrior and commander, who helped lay the foundations of the IDF armored corp and developed the Merkava tank, one of the world's best tanks, has left us this morning," Ashkenazi said. "Talik, as everyone called him, belonged to the founding generation of the IDF, in which the security of the state of Israel, protecting its borders and the peace of its citizens was his objective from the beginning of his lifetime to his last day," explained the chief of staff. "Talik wrote the golden pages of the magnificent, but bloody, history of Israeli security. His personal and unique contribution to the defense of Israel cannot be measured. May his memory be blessed."

Tal, known to foreign experts as "Mr. Armor," was the seventh commander of the IDF armored corps between the years of 1964 and 1969.

Tal's mastery of long-range tank fire tactics are widely seen as key to the Israeli break through of the Egyptian Suez Canal on the Sinai peninsula during the 1967 Six Day war where he served as an armored division commander. In 1972, he was called to service by then chief of general staff David Elazar to serve as head of the military operations branch and as deputy chief of staff. He became the commander of the southern front during the surprise Egyptian and Syrian attack against in the 1973 Yom Kippur war. In 1974, he finished his military service and served as a security consultant to Shimon Peres. In 1978, Tal returned to service and developed a new organizational plan, the establishment of a field forces command.

Tal was named one of the top five armored commanders in history at The Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor in Fort Knox, Kentucky, along with IDF Maj.-Gen. Moshe Peled, US General George S. Patton, US Gen. Creighton Abrams and German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.

Israel and Russia Sign Military Cooperation Agreement

Israel and Russia recently signed a long term military cooperation agreement and are negotiating the establishment of a joint venture to develop and produce unmanned aerial vehicles in Russia. Israel’s minister of defense Ehud Barak and his host, Russian minister of defense, Anatoly Serdyukov signed a military cooperation agreement paving the way for tighter cooperation in the field of unmanned systems, counter terrorism and asymmetric, urban warfare.

“It is very important to us that in the transition to a new image, the Russian armed forces use the experience the Israeli armed forces have and the work they have done” Serdyukov said, adding Russia has bought 12 UAV systems from Israel, and 50 servicemen are currently being trained to operate them. The acquisition of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) UAVs was one of the first procurements foreign systems completed by the Russians.

The twelve UAVs Russia has acquired were delivered by IAI off-the-shelf, to fulfill ad-hoc requirements for Russian military and Russian homeland security uses. Among the off-the-shelf available systems were two Bird Eye 400 systems, eight I-View MK150 tactical UAVs and two Searcher Mk II tactical short range UAVs. Some 50 Russian military servicemen are currently undergoing Israeli training in the use of these systems.

A second contract worth $100 million is expected to be delivered this year. In order to approve the deal, the Israel Ministry of Defense (MOD) required that IAI establish a Joint Venture with a Russian partner, to establish a UAV development and production center in Russia. Prospects for the Russian demand for such systems are estimated at $300 million. According to various estimates, the Russian military needs up to 100 UAVs and at least 10 guidance and control systems to ensure effective battlefield reconnaissance.

Russians were also after more advanced Israeli UAVs of the Heron 1 class, but after long deliberation Israel’s defense ministry decided to exclude such advanced systems as ‘too sensitive’ for transfer to the eastern bloc.

Remembering the Yom Kippur War

The Yom Kippur War was fought from October 6 to 26, 1973, between Israel and a massive coalition of Arab states backing Egypt and Syria.  The war began with a joint surprise attack on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism.  The obvious reason for choosing the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur to stage a surprise attack on Israel was that on this specific holiday (unlike any other) the country comes to a complete standstill. Yom Kippur is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar; both religiously observant Jews and most of the secular majority fast, abstain from any use of electricity, engines, communications, etc., and all road traffic ceases. Many soldiers also went home from military facilities for the holiday, and Israel was more vulnerable with much of its military on leave.

Due to a massive blunder on the part of Israel's intelligence apparatus there was no real prior warning and Israel's strategy of using a preemptive strike was not utilized.

Anti Israeli Propaganda from the Arab Press
1967 arab propaganda

Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, several other Arab nations were involved in this war, providing additional weapons and financing.

Forces that attacked Israel:
Algeria
Egypt
Syria
Arab Expeditionary Forces:
Iraq
Jordan
Morocco
Saudi Arabia
Libya
Kuwait
Sudan
Pakistan
Uganda
Tunisia
Cuba
North Korea

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait gave financial aid and sent some token forces to join in the battle. Morocco sent three brigades to the front lines.  Pakistan sent sixteen pilots.

From 1971 to 1973, Muammar al-Qaddafi of Libya sent Mirage fighters and gave Egypt around $1 billion to arm for war. Algeria sent squadrons of fighters and bombers, armored brigades, and dozens of tanks. Tunisia sent over 1,000 soldiers, who worked with Egyptian forces in the Nile delta, and Sudan sent 3,500 soldiers.

Uganda radio reported that Idi Amin sent Ugandan soldiers to fight against Israel. Cuba also sent approximately 1,500 troops including tank and helicopter crews who reportedly also engaged in combat operations against the IDF.

Iraq also sent a force to the Golan, consisting of some 30,000 men, 500 tanks, and 700 APCs.

Egypt and Syria crossed ceasefire lines to enter the Israeli Sinai Peninsula and Golan Heights.

Egyptian attacked across the heavily-fortified Suez Canal during the first three days, after which they dug in, settling into a stalemate. In the north, the Syrians attacked the Golan Heights at the same time and initially made threatening gains against the greatly outnumbered defenders, but their momentum waned. Within a week, Israel recovered and launched a four-day counter-offensive, driving deep into Syria itself. To relieve this pressure, the Egyptians went back on the offensive, but were decisively defeated; the IDF then counterattacked at the seam between two Egyptian armies, crossed the Suez Canal, and advanced southward and westward in over a week of heavy fighting. Israel encircled elements of Egypt's Third Army after an agreed United Nations ceasefire resolution. This initially prompted tension between the superpowers, but a ceasefire was imposed cooperatively on October 25 to end the war.

By the end of the fighting, The IDF were 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Damascus, from there they were able to shell the outskirts of the city using heavy artillery, and 101 kilometres (63 mi) from Cairo and occupied 1,600 square kilometers west of the Suez Canal. The IDF had also cut the Cairo-Suez road and encircled the bulk of Egypt's Third Army. The Egyptians held only a narrow strip on the east bank of the Canal, occupying some 1,200 square kilometers of Sinai. One source estimated that the Egyptians had 70,000 men and 720 tanks on the East bank of the canal. However, 30,000 of these were now encircled by the IDF.

According to Abraham Rabinovich "...in military terms Israel would recognize its achievement in the war as having few historic parallels. Reeling from a surprise attack on two fronts with the bulk of its army still unmobilized, and confronted by staggering new battlefield realities, Israel's situation was one that could readily bring strong nations to their knees. Yet, within days, it had regained its footing and in less than two weeks it was threatening both enemy capitals, an achievement having few historical parallels. Israel faced not just the Egyptian and Syrian armies but much of the Arab world, and did so with the arm it had most relied on, the air force, tied behind its back. As a military feat, the IDF’s performance in the Yom Kippur War dwarfed that in the Six Day War. [Israeli]Victory emerged from motivation that came from the deepest layers of the nation’s being and from basic military skills that compensated for the grave errors of leadership."
